Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Fact Checker ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our mobile applications (iOS and Android) and our website at factcheckerapp.info (collectively, the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

a) Information you provide

  • Account information: name, email address, password (hashed), and, if applicable, sign-in details from a third-party identity provider.
  • Submitted Content: text, links/URLs, images, and (in future releases) video that you submit for credibility analysis.
  • Payment information: if you subscribe to a paid tier, billing details are collected and processed by our payment processor, Stripe — we do not store full card numbers ourselves.
  • Communications: messages you send us, e.g. via factcheckerapp.info@gmail.com.

b) Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: features used, scans performed, timestamps, crash logs, and general interaction data.
  • Device and technical data: device type, operating system, app version, IP address, and approximate location derived from IP (for security, fraud prevention, and localization).

c) Information from third parties

  • Results returned by third-party detection providers (see Section 3) based on content you submit.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve the Service, including generating credibility scores and evidence exhibits;
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions;
  • Maintain your account, including case history of your prior scans;
  • Communicate with you about your account, updates, or support requests;
  • Monitor, detect, and prevent abuse, fraud, and security incidents;
  • Improve our detection methodology and scoring accuracy over time (using aggregated or de-identified data where feasible);
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. How We Share Information

We share information only as described below:

  • Detection and analysis providers. To generate credibility signals, Submitted Content (or relevant portions of it, such as a URL, an image, or extracted text) is shared with OpenAI, whose models perform the credibility analysis, on-image AI-generation detection, a live web search for corroborating articles, and (for photo checks) reading of any text found on the image. This provider processes content solely to return an analysis result to us and is bound by its own terms and privacy practices, which we encourage you to review where available.
  • Payment processing. Subscription payments are handled by Stripe, which collects and processes payment details under its own privacy policy.
  • Service providers. We may share information with hosting, analytics, and customer-support vendors who process data on our behalf, under contractual confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
  • Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or governmental request, or where necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Fact Checker, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers. If Fact Checker is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy or a successor policy.

4. Content Submitted for Analysis

Because credibility analysis is the core function of the Service, submitted text, links, and media are processed by our systems and, where relevant, by the third-party providers described above. Where content includes images or video of identifiable individuals, that content is analyzed only to generate credibility/AI-detection signals and is not used to build a facial-recognition profile of anyone. We retain Submitted Content and scan results for as long as needed to provide your case history and improve the Service, or until you delete it or your account (see Section 7).

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Our website may use cookies or similar technologies for authentication, session management, and basic analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect some website functionality.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal information and Submitted Content for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 8).

7. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal information;
  • Export a copy of your data;
  • Object to or restrict certain processing;
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • Delete your account and associated Submitted Content and case history.

To exercise these rights, contact us at factcheckerapp.info@gmail.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or a jurisdiction with similar data-protection laws, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it.

10. International Data Transfers

Given that Fact Checker's team and users are located in multiple countries (including Pakistan and other markets we serve), your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email. The "Last Updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
